I recently stayed at Akinabalu Youth in KK for a week and it was fantastic! The staff, especially Arney, were so friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, right on Gaya Street with plenty of shops and eateries nearby. The common area is spacious and great for meeting new people. The breakfast, although simple, was tasty and the free water refill is a nice touch. I highly recommend this hostel for both short and long stays.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Budget price! Worth to stay as backpackers!
The lighting is too dark...I faced the bathroom light was spoiled without anyone attended it..

Great location, close to bus station and walkable to all attractions. Good food outlets nearby. Open and breezy common area for socializing. Breakfast is more than just tea and toast, includes boiled egg, sausage, and cake. Helpful staff with good advice on trips and discounted prices
Felt truly spoilt, nothing to complain about

It had a good atmosphere and it was pretty clean. The room smelled a bit but that might have been the fault of a guest rather than the admin.
The staff could have been friendlier. Free breakfast was a bit of a joke. Instant noodles and sliced bread. You get what you pay for.

Clean, big dorms, lovely breakfast, amazing staff, great location.
Couldn't find any faults at all.

The dormitory room at Akinabalu Youth Hostel was cozy and comfortable. I loved the 32-inch TV with premium channels, perfect for winding down after a day of exploring. The rainfall showerhead in the shared bathroom was a nice touch too. Plus, the air conditioning kept me cool throughout my stay.
Personally, I just didn't fancy the shared bathroom. But hey, that's just me.

The staff at this hostel were incredibly friendly and helpful. They provided lots of information about the local area and places of interest. The communal area was a great place to meet other travelers and share experiences. The hostel offered a simple but good breakfast, and the rooms and showers were clean and well-maintained. The location of the hostel was very convenient, being close to many attractions.
One downside of the hostel's central location was that it could be a bit noisy from outside. during check-in and throughout my stay, the staff did try to cross-sell tours quite frequently, which was a bit off-putting.

The hostel is also conveniently close to the bus stop, making it easy to catch a ride to the nearby mountain. The staff is friendly and welcoming, always ready to assist you with any inquiries or help you may need.
The wifi at the hostel can be a bit intermittent, which may cause some inconvenience for those relying on a stable internet connection.

great stay at a cozy hostel with friendly staff, perfect location, clean rooms, and a wide communal space to relax in.
Slow and unreliable wifi.

I chose Akinabalu Youth for its proximity to Atkinson Clock Tower, a place I really wanted to visit. I was pleasantly surprised by the reliable service and professional staff at the hostel. I also enjoyed the plenty of dining options, including traditional coffee shops and Chinese restaurants, and the simple breakfast provided each morning.
Noisy night market on Saturday.

I had a great value for my money at Akinabalu Youth. The shared room I stayed in was peaceful and comfortable, and the location was ideal for my early morning climb to Mount Kinabalu. The staff, especially Dayang Arney, were incredibly friendly and helpful, even going above and beyond to send me back a purse I left behind in Europe.
The hotel breakfast menu could use a little improvement by offering a wider variety of spreads and drinks.

Friendly staff at the reception made me feel welcome during my stay. They helped me with bike rentals and nearby parking, and always had a smile on their face. It felt like having a personal concierge, but without the luxury price tag!
Limited parking spaces.
